Layomi Coker who studies Extended Diploma in Performing Arts and Production has been offered the fantastic opportunity to work with industry professionals at The Changeling Theatre Company on their tour across the country this summer, providing a brilliant platform to showcase her talents to the nation.
After auditioning a wide range of young actors, Layomi has been chosen as an Apprentice for the theatre to work on their open air productions. Layomi tells us “I was so excited my first real audition for a professional theatre company. I was asked to bring my guitar and prepare a song. I chose ‘Gimme Gimme’ from the musical ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’ and the song on the guitar was from my recent end of year production ‘The Wonderful World of Dissocia’.”
Artistic director Rob Forknall told Kent Online: “We were blown away by the talent from Kent this year. We saw some really strong performers at the Hazlitt Theatre, but Layomi and Chelsea were just so good that we had to appoint both of them. They demonstrated not only huge amounts of natural acting talent and charisma, but a real desire to get stuck in. This opportunity will give them a step up the acting ladder and open doors to new roles and opportunities in their careers.”
Layomi will be performing as Dion in Shakespeare’s ‘A Winter’s Tale’, Rose in ‘Nell Gwynn’ by Jessica Swale and Queen Catherine of Portugal (and is currently learning Portuguese for the role!) Layomi tells us "It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity where I can do what I love whilst learning from those around me. This summer will allow me to become the best version of myself and to develop my skills to the best I can.”
The tour starts on June 28 to August 18 and will be visiting Maidstone, London, Canterbury, Aylesford, Wales and more. Book tickets and view venues here
