EKC Group students celebrate Level 3 Results Day

Today marks an exciting moment for students across EKC Group as they collect their Level 3 results!

With many securing places at their chosen university, and others preparing to start full-time work or apprenticeships, there was a buzz across at College today as students found out their results.

Mercy is EKC Canterbury College Sixth Form’s first student to go on to study at an Oxbridge University. After studying Politics, Sociology and Religious Studies, she is set to attend Cambridge University in September and study Human, Social and Political Sciences.

“It’s incredible to be the first student from this College to go on to study at Cambridge University,” she said.

“I just hope that I can motivate other people to show them what’s possible. You can do anything.

“The College has given me a lot of opportunities and I had the opportunity to start things I wanted to do like a Charity Club – it’s been really exciting.

“The teachers are very passionate and I’ve had so many lovely teachers. To apply to Cambridge, there’s been a lot of forms to fill out and references I’ve needed the Sixth Form to, and they’ve been great at helping me through the process.”

Mercy was home-schooled for her GCSEs but wanted to get back into the education system for her A Levels.

“I didn’t want to come back to a mainstream school, and I think you’re a lot freer here and feel more like an adult,” she said.

“I was very used to taking control of my own education, so being able to do that here has been great.”

Liam studied Level 3 Creative Media at EKC Sheppey College and achieved a Merit.

As a result of his success, he is now heading to Medway School of Arts to study Photography for three years.

Speaking about their journey at College, Liam said: “I’ve loved the range of areas you can work in with Creative Media, because then you know roughly what you want to do by the time you leave College. Being here has allowed me to explore photography, so I’m now pursuing it further.”

When asked what advice he’d give to new students, he said: “My advice is to talk to your lecturer about what you want your main focus to be. Even outside of the work units, we’ve done photography trips and explored a lot of Kent, even if it didn’t align with our units, so you can get information about Creative Media in the wider world.”

Seye waited for his friends to arrive before collecting his results at EKC Ashford College. He was already sure of his progression and was confident he would receive top marks. 

“I did 50+ applications when I heard about degree apprenticeships; a lot of applications, interviews, visiting assessment centres,” he said.

“The work experience from the T Level helped a lot. It strengthened my CV for my applications. The T Level course content is also related to the apprenticeship I’ll be doing.”

Seye is set to start a Degree Apprenticeship in Data Engineering with Shell UK in London.

Meanwhile, at EKC Broadstairs College, Charlie, Christian and Daniel studied Level 3 Creative Media Production and Technology.

Charlie achieved a Distinction and is planning to take a gap year before deciding on his next steps. Christian achieved a Merit and will be continuing his studies at the University of Kent, while Daniel achieved a Distinction and will be heading to the University of Sussex.

Speaking about their experience at Margate Digital Campus, they said: “We were the first students to enter Margate Digital Campus, so we were kind of the guinea pigs – and as far as guinea pigs go, we got it pretty good! It’s all state-of-the-art equipment, better than some universities in the area. If you’re looking for a good creative space, then Margate Digital is the place to be.”

Alfie from EKC Folkestone College studied Level 3 Diploma in Architecture, Interior and Urban Design at College and achieved a Merit.

Speaking about their journey at College, Alfie said it helped him find out what he wanted to do.

“College was really good and helpful; the tutors and the course helped me find my creative voice and what career path I wanted to do,” he said.

Alfie is set to study Product Design at Manchester Metropolitan University and wants to design computers, laptops and furniture.

Gloria studied T Level Engineering (Design and Development at EKC Dover College and achieved a Merit. She is currently weighing up her options and has offers to continue studying engineering at Bournemouth University and the University of Kent.

Speaking about her journey at College, Gloria said she feels she’s been set up nicely for her future, commenting on practical skills she’s been able to master in the workshop.

“Being hands-on, working with tools that I’d probably never see if I was doing regular A Levels has been really beneficial. I think it’s prepared me quite well; my tutors have given me practical things that I can use in the workplace, like learning technical drawings and how to properly annotate them,” she said.
