East Kent Colleges Group has been shortlisted for two awards at this year’s Kent Invicta Chamber Business Awards.
The prestigious event showcases the most talented businesses and individuals across the county.

One category the Group has been shortlisted for is ‘Employer of the Year 2024’. This category was open to any business or organisation which could demonstrate commercial success and strategies for growth whilst achieving excellence in its commitment to the support and development of its workforce.
East Kent Colleges Group Chief Communications Officer, Jamie Weir, said: “As one of the county’s largest employers, it makes me so proud that we have been shortlisted in this year’s Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce’s Employer of the Year award.
“Through the pandemic we worked incredibly hard to deliver an organisation that not only met the needs of the diverse communities we serve, but also the needs of our many colleagues across the Group. We’ve continued that work since Covid, and I’m so pleased that all of these efforts are reflected in this exciting awards shortlisting.”

The Group has also been shortlisted for the ‘Construction Project of the Year’ award, for its Phase 2 Development at EKC Ashford College.
The impressive build was completed in 2023 and allows students to learn cutting edge skills in Manufacturing, Engineering and a wide range of areas in the industry.
At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, former Ashford MP Damian Green said in his speech, that this development was crucial to support the town’s growth and ensure a steady supply of highly skilled workers.
Jamie added: “It is also incredible to have our EKC Ashford College’s ‘Phase 2’ project shortlisted in the award’s Construction Project of the Year category.
“The growth that we’ve seen since our Group took on the College in 2020 has been incredible, and the Phase 2 project has allowed us to continue to do more to play a leading role in growing the socio-economic prosperity of the borough.
“The stakeholder support we had in this development was truly unparalleled, so this award is also testament to the dedication and efforts of the council, local MP, and many others that worked tirelessly to make this project a reality. They really do deserve recognition, so I’m pleased they can share in this achievement.”
The winners for the Kent Invicta Chamber Business Awards will be announced at a gala dinner at Westenhanger Castle on November 21st.
