Following an energetic campaign, Omar Walker, was elected with 54.7 per cent of the vote. The Folkestone College student will take office on 1 August 2018, when present President Jessica Foster finishes her term.
Omar, who is currently completing a diploma in Business, praised the culture of the College in his campaign’s video manifesto.
He said: “I like how helpful the staff and tutors are, they do all they can to support the students with their learning in College.”
In his manifesto Omar said that if elected, he would tackle a range of key student needs across the Group, pledging to promote the voice of students at the highest level.
He said: “I am a hard working person, who will set myself goals that can be achieved through the voice of the students. I will promote your change, and your ideas.”
Omar also said that he would work to ensure card machines were available for students to use. His pledges proved popular, and he managed to beat back fierce competition from three other candidates, winning after three rounds. Animal Care student, Cayci Heath was a close second with 45.3 per cent of the vote in the final round of voting, while Mickael Spillett got 12.5 per cent before being eliminated and Martin McKechnie took 8.4 per cent.
