Double nomination for newly formed EKC Group

EKC Group has beaten back tough competition from the best colleges in the country to be shortlisted for two prestigious further education prizes this year.

The Group is in the running for one of this year’s sector-leading Association of Colleges (AoC) Beacon Awards as well as a Times Educational Supplement (TES) FE Award.

The AoC Beacon Awards, now in their 24th year, showcase best practice and innovation in colleges across the country. This year EKC Group is shortlisted in the Edge Award for Excellence in the Practical Delivery of Technical and Professional Learning category, which highlights innovation in practical teaching and learning. Its submission was based around the Group’s development and use of its Broadstairs hotel The Yarrow, which is used by students as a pathway into the catering and hospitality industry. Acting as an inspirational learning environment, this Visit England four-star rated hotel gives students the opportunity to put into practice the skills they develop in the College, alongside highly skilled industry professionals.

The second award the Group has been shortlisted for is the well-recognised TES FE Apprenticeship programme of the year.

Anne Leese, EKC Group’s Deputy Principal and Deputy Chief Executive, was thrilled the Group had been recognised for its efforts to engage with business.

She said: “With employers rating us the top College in Kent and the fourth in the country we have worked hard to ensure we provide high quality apprenticeships that fully meet employers’ needs and address the skill gaps in East Kent.”

She continued to say: “I was therefore absolutely delighted to hear that we have been shortlisted for two prestigious awards”
