With six further education colleges in Ashford, Broadstairs, Canterbury, Dover, Folkestone and Sheppey, as well as nine adult training centres, which make up the EKC Training provision, the Group offers a host of education opportunities for people of all ages.
One aspect of its unique offer is its Junior College provision. The Junior College programme at EKC Broadstairs College, EKC Canterbury College, EKC Folkestone College and EKC Sheppey College is a unique opportunity for students entering Year 10 (or the equivalent if home-schooled) who want to specialise in a chosen pathway.
It is a unique two-year provision that blends academic learning with practical, industry-based training, helping students explore career interests early on
The course includes specialised studies, which are different at each Junior College campus, along with core subjects like GCSE Maths, English, PE, and PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic Education).
The Junior College programme offers a safe environment with distinct lanyards, so they are easily identified as pre-16 learners for safety and community purposes. Direct progression routes are available to learners when they are ready to move into Further Education at the end of the programme.
There is extensive support available to students. Students can access wellbeing support teams and Careers Advisors who assist with everything from subject choices to future education planning.
Learners are also invited to be involved in their College Students’ Union and can take part in group trips, events, and social activities. They also have opportunities to engage in community projects that benefit their education and their communities.
The Junior College programme at EKC Canterbury College is a unique opportunity for students currently in Year 9 (or equivalent if home-schooled) who want to specialise in the land-based industry.
EKC Canterbury Junior College is for students who are interested in the land based industry and would like to specialise during their Year 10 and Year 11 studies.
The programme is set within its own area of the EKC Canterbury College campus, with specialised tutors and staff onsite to support, nurture, and teach the students in a small class setting.
Students will focus on their Land based and Horticultural skills over the two-year programme.
EKC Broadstairs Junior College is for Year 9 students (or those who are an equivalent age if home-schooled), who are interested in studying Catering and Hospitality, or Sport and would like to specialise during their Year 10 and Year 11 studies.
The programme is set within its own area of the EKC Broadstairs College campus, with specialised tutors and staff on-site to support, nurture, and teach the students in a small class setting.
The EKC Sheppey Junior College is for students who want to specialise in Digital Skills or Engineering studies.
Students will choose either Digital or Engineering to focus on over the course of the two years and learn from a specialised Junior College area of the College campus.
EKC Folkestone Junior College is for students who would like to specialise in Art and Design and Creative Media.
Students will focus on Art and Design and Creative Media over the course of the two years and have access to industry-standard equipment to grow their confidence in their chosen career.
