East Kent Colleges Group (EKC Group) drama students will hear their voices on the radio after being part of an advert campaign.
Drama students at EKC Canterbury College, which is part of EKC Group, were given the exciting opportunity to be part of advert recordings for a new campaign on kmfm – Kent’s biggest radio station.
The exciting project meant 10 students met with Rob Wills – kmfm breakfast radio presenter – to record a set of adverts in the state-of-the-art recording studio at their college.
It was described as an unforgettable opportunity by several of the students who took part, including Yas Spinazza.
Yas explained: “It was really fun and a good new experience.
“It’s definitely given me a different perspective on things and got me thinking about what else is out there and different things you can do in the industry.
“Seeing Rob on the computer and taking on his advice was really cool, too. I never knew that this was how radio adverts were made.”
Fellow student Rhys Jones added: “It was a great opportunity to give us an insight into what it might be like to do voice acting, and it really showed us how we can use our voice more. I’ll definitely take that on in my acting.
“I definitely want to have a look at voice acting now because that opportunity was so cool.”
The students involved in the sessions were Kyra Daly, Lanada Nosovs, Evie Smith, William Winchester, Yas Spinazza, Ace Wetherall, Mars Webb, Lacey Durling, Rhys Jones and Sam Bunce.
Despite it being their first taste of professional voiceover work, the group impressed producers with confident and creative performances.
Several recordings have now been chosen for a campaign promoting college life and the benefits of further education.
The adverts are designed to show that college is a practical, career-focused route for young people, and an opportunity to turn their passions into professions.
Sarah Davies, drama lecturer at EKC Canterbury College, said: “It was fantastic to see our students flourish as they stepped into the studio to record radio ads with kmfm.
“They showed real enthusiasm, confidence and professionalism in the recording environment – qualities they’ve been developing throughout their MAPA course, and which shone through on the day.
“Opportunities like this are invaluable in helping our students grow, build industry-ready skills and feel prepared for life after college.
“Working directly with the kmfm team made the whole experience unforgettable.”
Listeners will be able to hear the students’ work on kmfm over the coming months as the campaign rolls out across Kent.
