Taking place twice a year, Community Week is EKC Group’s way of giving something back to the local communities it serves across East Kent. In previous years, student have helped re-decorate facilities for charitable organisations and help maintain shared public spaces, developing their skills while building links into the local community.
This year, students have already delivered a wide range of projects, including visiting dementia patients and giving them pamper sessions with haircuts and manicures.
In addition to taking on projects that see students develop the skills they learn in college, learners have also got involved in the Great British Spring Clean campaign to help improve the quality of their local environments. This has seen staff and students sprucing up areas such as the picturesque beaches around Broadstairs and wider Thanet coastline.
Executive Director of Student Experience and Wellbeing for EKC Group, Lauren Anning, recently said: “Community week gives our students the opportunity to give something back to their local area. EKC Group see it as a really important part of each student’s experience, as it cements the skills of self-confidence and empathy whilst building a sense of personal responsibility to the local community. ”
