Canterbury College is a partner of Pride Canterbury, a spectacular celebration of the LGBTQ+ identity, set in the heart of the City.
Wearing glitter, waving rainbow flags and holding banners, students and staff from across the College were joined by various organisations as they snaked through the streets, cheering and marching for Pride.
Chloe Smith, Students' Union President at Canterbury College said "Pride was really fun, I got to meet members of my community and it was fantastic to be able to represent the Students’ Union and the College at my first external event as SU president."
The parade ended in the Dane John Gardens where the Students’ Union displayed a stall for the duration of the celebration - an afternoon of music, DJs and fun.
Captured by media outlets nationwide, with attendance in the thousands, the event was a huge success and the students played their part in proudly promoting the respectful and diverse community that Canterbury College upholds.
As a green partner of Pride Canterbury, the College sponsored the celebration and production of reusable cups to support the organisers in promoting a greener Pride.
Jon Fitter-Harding, Marketing and Sponsorship Director of Pride Canterbury CIC said “Thank you for the support you gave Pride this year. It was truly amazing and we are so grateful. Our community and city really needed this event and the feedback has been amazing. The cups went down an absolute storm and they really worked in reducing waste.”
Canterbury College celebrates individuality and diversity and the Students’ Union encourages all students to be their true selves, with an Equalities Officer in place to help represent LGBTQ+ voices.
The College looks forward to a continued partnership supporting Pride and representing the College at the colourful, inclusive event.
