Fun Things to do as a Student in Canterbury

There are many things to take advantage of when studying in the historic, yet modern city of Canterbury. With so much on offer within walking distance of College, there are a variety of activities and ways to spend time between lessons, during lunch break or on the weekend.

Sight-seeing

Take the opportunity to visit Canterbury’s most famous landmark and England’s largest cathedral, Canterbury Cathedral. The Cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and dates to the 12th Century.

Explore the significant history of the impressive building and the stunning medieval stained-glass windows. If you are currently studying at Canterbury College, it won’t cost you a penny, as college students can enjoy free entry with their student ID!

On a sunny day day, why not take in the sights along the River Stour and explore more of Canterbury's rich history with a Historic River Tour.

Cinema

If the weather isn’t looking too good, the cinema is a great option. The Curzon Westgate and Curzon Riverside showcase independent films, live events and art broadcasts, as well as the latest popular releases. They also have on-site restaurants to enjoy a bite to eat before or after a movie.

Shopping and Dining

There is plenty of choice when it comes to hitting the shops and finding a spot to eat in the city. Head to Whitefriars Shopping Centre for popular chain stores and restaurants or check out The Kings Mile and the end of the High Street near the Westgate Towers, for independent shops and eateries.

As a student, you can take advantage of the student discount that many shops throughout Canterbury offer. Sign up to apps such as UNiDAYS and Student Beans to access more discounts.

Want even more discounts? Purchase a yearly TOTUM card, which allows you to take discount from an even wider variety of stores!

Theatre

The Marlowe Theatre offers cheaper tickets to students through their Discovery Tickets. If you’re aged between 16-26 years old, you can benefit from some huge savings on tickets to musicals, plays and other events, and snap up the best seats in the house for just £10!

Escape Rooms

Escape Rooms are becoming increasingly popular and are a great way to spend a couple of hours. Problem-solving, team-work and patience will all come in handy. See if you can beat the clock!

There are a few different Escape Rooms to check out in Canterbury, including Escape Kent and Escape in the Towers.
