Bright Young Things - CSVA End of Year Show

On Friday 1st July, Canterbury School of Visual Arts held a private viewing of their annual End of Year Show in the heart of Canterbury and at the College’s Palette Gallery.

The CSVA End of Year Show titled ‘Bright Young Things’ marked the end of the academic year and showcased the brilliant work of the Art & Design students.

Crowds gathered as the private viewing kicked off with a spectacular catwalk show, innovatively captured by the photography tutors and staff, showcasing amazing designs by Fashion and Textiles students.

The catwalk show featured a vibrant backdrop, adorned with hundreds of fabric flowers that were upcycled and handmade by students across all departments in the College.

Final pieces ranging from sculptures, prints and interactive visual experiences created by Level 1 and 2 were displayed throughout the College's Palette Gallery and the 2 floors above for staff, friends and family to view and discuss.

The evening then continued as the crowd headed to the city venue on Butchery Lane, where work from Level 3 Art, Graphics, Photography and HND and BA students was exhibited throughout the 3-floor venue.

Several students were commended and recognised for their hard work and success, winning awards including Outstanding Achievement and Best in Show.

Ben Kidger, Head of Visual Arts, said: "After three years of not being able to conduct the students end of year in the way we wanted due to the pandemic, this year CSVA were back with a bang! Hundreds of our students' supporters, friends, and families joined TV personalities, politicians, principals to celebrate the creative endeavours at their End of Year Show Private View.

Selected ‘Bright Young Things’ CSVA students will continue to show their work in venues in Canterbury over the summer, as well as in ‘Dream Senses’; an exhibition of selected art works at Dreamland Margate."
