Bit Crush Festival Charity Success

The annual Bit Crush Festival took place at Canterbury College from 26 – 28 November, raising exactly £3003.00 for Demelza Hospice Care for Children.

Media students and staff organise the festival each year to take place in College, collaborating with staff from Demelza to raise money for facilities at the house in Sittingbourne.

Students had the opportunity to showcase their skills by setting up stalls with sellable artwork and badge-making stations to raise funds.

Gaming stations were available throughout College to allow students to test out new games and consoles with their friends.

The Music department also collaborated with Bit Crush and provided fantastic live music throughout the event.

Overall, the event was a huge success and Media students surpassed their £3000 target over the three days, with a grand total of £3003.00.

Both the funding and the awareness that the students have raised for Demelza will have an enormous positive impact on families in the community.

A spokesperson from Demelza has confirmed that over the five years that College students have been running Bit Crush, around £18,000 has been raised.

Catherine Smith, Media lecturer said: “This event has a really positive impact on both the community and our students. Bit Crush brings everyone together within College and helps students showcase their skills within their subject specialisms.”

The Media department will continue to support Demelza throughout the year, holding gaming tournaments in collaboration with the Students’ Union.
