Develop your understanding of forensic science and how the techniques and methods are applied in the workplace.
This course will develop your understanding of forensic science, and give you an insight into how it's used in the workplace. You'll learn about the three main areas of science, but the course focusses more on biology and chemistry. The qualification is equivalent to three A-levels.
You will do a mix of practical coursework, presentations and assignments, and put together a portfolio of your work, with exams in fundamental aspects of science.
This can lead to a science-related job or a higher education (degree-level) course in forensic science, forensic pathology, criminology, toxicology and psychology. It will also open up a wide range of job opportunities, such as joining the police. Whilst the main focus of your progression will be on different branches of forensic science, you can also go on to specialise in other areas of science.
4 Cs or 4s including Level 5 English, Maths and Science or a relevant Full Level 2.
You will be expected to undertake two weeks of work experience per year, amounting to 30 hours each year.
You will have the opportunity to broaden your knowledge through trips to the Crown Court. There may also be the opportunity to join a science conference with the Royal Institute, held at Disneyland Paris.
