Lauren Wells - Alumna Case Study

Lauren completed her Hotel Management course at Broadstairs College in 2018. Only 3 years later she has completed a Management Apprenticeship and oversees other staff at The Yarrow Hotel, Broadstairs.

Why I chose college

The course was very beneficial for what I want to do in the future. I enjoyed the way the lessons were taught and the more relaxed environment of college as opposed to sixth form. Class sizes were also smaller, so the tutors had more time to focus on helping each student. Also, my course was all assignment based which I found much easier than exams and meant I was able to achieve a Distinction* Distinction* overall.

My career

After leaving college, I started a Level 4 Hospitality Management Apprenticeship at the Yarrow hotel. This included completing an exam, personal discussion and a 10,000-word business project. I successfully completed the Apprenticeship in January 2021 and became a shift leader within the food and beverage department, working alongside professional staff and training students.

My time in the workplace

I have improved and learnt many skills throughout my career and my knowledge and understanding of the hospitality industry has improved too. I am now able to share my skills and knowledge with others and enjoy helping other students and new staff at the Yarrow to get the most out of their time with us and continue to develop too.
