Last week, Business and Computing students from our T Level programmes and our Level 3 courses, went along to Champneys Eastwell Manor Hotel & Spa. Throughout the day they learnt about how they can bring an impact across the hospitality industry, and how in this field of work, the opportunities are endless no matter your speciality of knowledge.
The day started with a talk from General Manager James about his role and what led him to where he is today. Our students were amazed at how James has been able to travel the world in his various roles, and that each experience was very different.
After this, we had a tour around various areas of the business, including the Spa, Guest Rooms and grounds. This showed our students that in terms of Business and Computing, each and every single one of them could go onto something completely different - such as managing a spa booking system or being a customer experience manager. Not every Business and Computing job will be purely office based, and these experiences help our students to understand this and explore their full potential.
Following our tour, we were treated to afternoon tea and a focus on how at Champneys the customer experience is at the forefront of everything. During this, our students also got to ask questions to the heads of the spa, customer experience and food and beverage teams, helping them to realise that in hospitality, the opportunities they can go into are truly endless. Many questions were asked by students as to what they could do in a business such as Champneys and what they would need to get there, and Eastwell Manor staff asked our students about what they were looking for in terms of future education/work placements.
At the end of the day, when asked who would now be interested in a career in the Hospitality industry, everyone said yes! This was a great chance for our students to look further into an industry that they may not have considered before for work placements/future employment and was a great way for an employer to see the determination of our students. We hope to work with Eastwell Manor in the future!
