Staff Showcase - Tetiana (LSP)

Tetiana joins us as a Learning Support Practitioner after decades of experience in Higher Education. Read below her story and where you can find her at college.

"My name is Tetiana and I am a Learning Support Practitioner here at Ashford College.

My native country is Ukraine and I arrived in the UK in April 2022 with my younger kids under the Homes for Ukraine scheme. My background is Ukrainian Language and Literature, and English as a Second Language (ESOL). I worked as a lecturer in Higher Education institutions for more than 25 years and taught many different courses, such as theoretical courses like comparative literature.

From August 2021, I worked as an English language instructor, working online. I liked this very much, and when we arrived in the UK I continued working online. We had hoped to be back in Ukraine by Autumn but this was not possible, so we are here for 1 more year, and due to this I applied for this job at Ashford College. I am happy that during the year I will be here helping the students of Ashford.

I mainly help students with their learning needs, for example if they need help and support during their lessons, as well as looking after their emotional needs. It all depends on what the student requires and what their needs are. We try to support them and give them equal opportunities to the other students.

The best part about my job here is meeting new people and having new challenges. New challenges give you new aims and these can help you reshape your own life and your own vision of your life. This is what I love about teaching and education in general.

Usually, I work across different departments depending on the timetabled lessons and what students need help, but during breaks and free lessons I am in the ALS Hub. This is where you can find me if require help or support."
