Media Students Create Christmas Book Advert

On Friday 14th December, students collaborated on author's book release.

On Friday 14th December, Film and TV students worked with Creative Media Production and Performing Arts students to film a promotional video for author and illustrator Katherine Turner’s new book ‘Sloth’s Christmas Adventure’. The story follows a tale of courage, determination and teamwork, as Sloth delivers the presents for Santa in time for Christmas morning.

Creative Writing and Journalism students interviewed the author to discuss her inspiration, vision and techniques for creating the book. Working with the author, students collaborated to develop an advertising campaign for the release. The main advert shows a television report on Santa’s sleigh crashing into a rainforest tree, with coverage on how Sloth and the rainforest animals come to the rescue. Performing Arts students acted the roles of the book characters, as the Media department filmed them in the College’s professional TV studio.

Katherine Turner said: “Working with the Media and Performing Arts students was a joy. It was encouraging to watch them skillfully get on with the project in hand, without any complaints. They used their initiative and listened well to advice and direction. I particularly enjoyed seeing the students working together as a team, supporting and encouraging each other in their separate roles. It was lovely to be a part of the process and be able to engage with the students, who genuinely seemed to be enjoying what they were doing. I would love to work with them again.”

Media Lecturer and Industry Liaison Officer Leasa Merrill said: "From introducing themselves to the client, seeing the advert to completion, I was so impressed with how professional and confident the students were when working with their client. I’m delighted they have had the opportunity to work on such a wonderful book. They thoroughly enjoyed their work placement."
