Higher Education Students from Canterbury School of Visual Arts have entered a poster design competition for local Thanet women’s charity Power of Women. POW is a festival of arts and culture, celebrating and exploring issues around feminism, women and girls.
With a platform showcasing a range of events across Margate, Ramsgate and Broadstairs, Power of Women’s goals are to encourage community involvement in local arts and cultural activities, profiling the work of local female artists.
Students from Canterbury College presented their poster ideas to a panel of judges from Power of Women to be used to advertise their upcoming festival which will be running 8th–17th March 2019. This is a wonderful opportunity for Canterbury College students to work with such an important local charity and help raise awareness for women’s rights.
Ben Kidger, Head of Visual Arts, tells us that: "This project is precisely the kind of thing that CSVA excels at. We constantly push and strive for our students to have real-world experiences and creative collaborations with the community. Research issues around POW! has opened many eyes. That research was integral to the final designs the students presented to the panel and it will have positive impacts on the students' future projects."
