T Levels

T Levels are a new type of qualification being offered after you have completed your GCSEs. One T Level qualification is the equivalent to three A levels and is a perfect balance of classroom learning and real work experience.

What are T Levels?

T Levels are a brand new qualification designed to give you a head start towards the future you want.

They follow GCSEs and are equivalent to 3 A Levels.

The 2-year T Level qualification brings classroom and work placement together on a course designed with employers and businesses.

You’ll spend 80% of your time in the classroom and 20% on a 45-day placement to give you the skills and knowledge employers are looking for.

Your T Level will help you to step straight into your chosen career, an apprenticeship or a degree.

Structure of a T Level

T Level courses will include the following compulsory element:

  • A technical qualification, which will include:
    • core theory, concepts and skills for an industry area;
    • specialist skills and knowledge for an occupation or career;
    • an industry placement with an employer;
    • continued development of English, maths and digital competencies

Industry placements

Every T Level will include an industry placement with an employer focused on developing the practical and technical skills required for the occupation. These will last a minimum of 315 hours (approximately 45 days) but can last longer. Employers can offer industry placements as a block, day release or a mix of these, and can discuss sharing part of the placement with another employer if necessary.

Providers will support employers offering industry placements. This will include assistance with the necessary paperwork, a careful planning process and support with designing the industry placement.

You can study T Levels in Education and Childcare at our College.

In the coming years more subjects will be available.

An industry placement lasts around 45 days, undertaken as a block or as individual days.

The specific length of the placement and when it will take place will differ depending on your T Level.

T Levels will give you the same UCAS points and opportunity to progress to university as A Levels, but they also give you the specialist job knowledge and skills employers are looking for.

With 80% classroom teaching and 20% on-the-job training, T Levels are the perfect balance between academic and vocational learning.
