Pathways are made up of courses focused on future careers or further education opportunities

In a fast-paced environment where every day will be different and challenging, and with job opportunities all over the world, the hospitality industry offers great career choices and great rewards.

In addition to great work experience in our own on-site hotel, The Yarrow, our Hospitality students will also work alongside our partners at the Exclusive Butler School. This unique partnership will give our students the edge in the service industry and can help launch an exciting career as a butler or yacht steward.

The Yarrow hotel opened to the public in 2016 and sits within the Broadstairs College campus grounds. Converted from a Grade 2 listed building, the hotel has 23 bedrooms, 5 suites, a salon and a restaurant, with event space for 120 people. This unique learning environment provides valuable work experience for our Hospitality students, giving them a real insight into the industry and how it works.

One Broadstairs College student per academic year will be selected to receive a scholarship placement on the Exclusive Butler School two-week course, worth £7,000. Should the scholarship winner decide to pursue a career as a Yacht Steward, they can opt to undertake the STCW course instead. Students will be observed during the Royal Butler Dinners throughout the year, and three students will be selected to interview for this prestigious placement.

Careers in this industry include:

  • Butler ( Salary ranges from £21,000 - £100,000 per year)
  • Yacht Steward  ( Salary ranges from £1,750 and £3,000 per month)
  • Hotel Manager  ( Salary ranges from £20,000 - £60,000)
