Marine Engineering Level 2

A career in the marine industry could place you on a cruise liner, a local ferry, small commercial craft or even a super yacht. This course will equip you with the skills to enter this exciting industry and progress to wherever you choose to be.

What does this course involve?

Your Study Programme will consist of units delivered at our well-equipped College workshops and a number of short courses at a local specialist partner. Some of the units/courses you will complete are:

  • Producing components using hand-fitting techniques
  • Preparing and using lathes for turning operations
  • Vessel fire prevention and firefighting
  • Emergency first aid in response to maritime accidents or medical emergency
  • Maritime security

This list is not exhaustive but gives you an insight into the variety of topics you will cover. If you did not obtain a 4 or C in both English and maths, you will also study this on your Study Programme. The Programme will also include guest speakers and work experience.

What qualifications do I need?

English 3 or D, maths 4 or C, plus two more 4s or Ds.

Assessment

Written assignments, exams and practical assignments.
