Launching in 2023, a unique learning experience for students who want to enhance their acting and performance skills. The Marlowe Academy of Performing Arts is a first-class, two-year educational programme aimed at delivering industry-standard training alongside your qualification.

The Marlowe Academy of Performing Arts is a unique opportunity for learners to engage in professional performance training that is valued in theatres across the world.

In collaboration with The Marlowe Theatre, students are empowered to hone their talents in a first-class professional setting, with input and valuable expertise from industry professionals.

Learning takes place at The Marlowe’s Kit, set in the centre of the city of Canterbury, with access to large performance and rehearsal space.

Acting Training

Set in the heart of Canterbury, you will train at The Marlowe Kit, receiving a first-class education from industry professionals who will help you hone your acting talents in a way that is internationally recognised.

Qualification

You will leave College with a UAL qualification that is equivalent to 3 A Levels and will help you understand various acting techniques and theories.

Industry Experience

You will take advantage of unique opportunities to work at The Marlowe Theatre and explore different types of careers you can pursue within the acting industry.

As part of your training, you will be introduced to a range of activities essential to the development and delivery of a performance and learn how to convey a message to an audience and for use in your own personal practice.

Do you want to know how you can use your voice to captivate audiences. We will teach you a range of techniques and theories including:

  • Human anatomy and physiology which is connected to process of producing voice and singing
  • Breathing techniques and use of air in voice production
  • Vocal projection and resonation
  • Articulation
  • Vocal register, quality of voice production
  • Development of voice flexbility
  • Vocal health (warm ups and healthy use)
  • Singing
  • Speech
  • Use of voice in different genres.

How do you take a script to the stage to build believable characters. Our programme will cover a range of topics including:

  • Use of volume and full range of voice to produce meaning and message
  • Rhythm, tempo, pause, syncope, intonation, intensity and melody
  • Standard English Language
  • Accents and dialects
  • Body language
  • Speech in characters
  • Listening
  • Analysis of speech
  • Different ways of speaking
  • Thoughts
  • Analysing and dramatic text

This programme of study is designed to accelerate your progression toward employment, higher study, or apprenticeship opportunities.

We require students to have an average point on entry score of 5.0 from their best 6 subjects, ideally including English and Mathematics.

All learners will be required to attend an audition for this opportunity.

You do not need previous acting experience to apply, but ability and suitability for this course is determined through an audition process.
