Level 2 Sport and Leisure

This course is ideal for those with aspirations to join the sport and leisure industry. Using a combination of theory and practical sessions, you will learn what is required to work in this exciting industry.

What does this course involve?  

During your course, you will have the opportunity to learn about a selection of integral subjects including: 

  • Injury in sport
  • Practical sport
  • Sports coaching
  • Fitness testing and training
  • Sports psychology
  • Other areas related to the sport and leisure industry

You will also gain skills in teamwork, communication, leadership, fitness, resilience, honesty, enthusiasm, commitment, discipline and respect, as well as improving confidence.

You will have the opportunity to visit dozens of sport and leisure venues, receiving talks from industry professionals and going offsite to train at some of Kent’s finest facilities.

Sport and leisure is more than a job – it requires a different level of commitment – so from day one, these themes will be used to educate and prepare you for employment.

Our Level 2 Sport and Leisure course will have a strong focus on work experience, with all students working at Your Leisure facilities for 1–2 days per week. Through Your Leisure, you will also undertake the Lifeguard NPLQ, the Pool Plant Operator (PPO) Certificate and the First Aid at Work qualification. Upon successful completion of the NPLQ, you will receive guaranteed paid work from Your Leisure.

Trips and activities to support your learning will include:

  • Motor racing sites in Kent
  • Local football matches
  • University visits
  • USA scholarship talks
  • Local sports facilities and businesses
  • eSports providers
  • Thanet Passport: working with primary school children

This Study Programme will include English and maths at an appropriate level, and it will support the development of skills towards employability and suitability to progress onto the next level of study.

How will I be assessed?

Through a combination of practical work, presentations, practical observations and a portfolio of assignments, case studies and tests. 

What may it lead to?

On successful completion, you could progress onto a Level 3 course or seek employment across a range of sport and leisure careers including working in sports centres, assisting sports coaches, working with children and assisting in the fitness industry.

Entry requirements

4 Ds or 3s including English and maths or a relevant Full Level 1.
