EKC Group staff get the win at this year’s Kent Teacher of the Year Awards

This year’s Kent Teacher of the Year Awards saw successes for EKC Group, as two of its staff were awarded the prestigious prizes.

Canterbury College Graphic Design Lecturer Ruth Anderson picked up the award for Higher Education Lecturer of the Year in the Canterbury area, while Daniel Ridge won Further Education Apprenticeship Assessor of the Year for the Dover area.

The pair were awarded their trophies at a glitzy awards ceremony on 10 May. It was a chance to celebrate the exemplary work of both Higher and Further education staff across Kent. A total of 76 people were nominated for awards across nine areas.

Ruth Anderson, who has been a Graphic Design Lecturer for five years said: “I was inspired to become a lecturer by my time at university. It’s the student’s that make you want to get up in the morning, this award is for them as much as me.”

She continued: “The thing I love most about art is definitely the power of visual communication which plays important part in my area, graphic design.”

Daniel Ridge, who has been working as an assessor for nine years, said: “I particularly enjoy supporting and guiding my apprentices and find it motivating to be able to work closely with each individual employer and apprentice, tailoring my support to their needs. It’s exciting to be able to support the next generation of electricians in their goal to successfully complete their qualification.”

“I am really thrilled to have received this award, not only to have received recognition from my own organisation for my contribution, but to also have my work recognised amongst my peer group. As a professional working in the education I’m aware of how widely recognised these awards are and feel proud to be a part of the Kent Teacher of the Year Awards.”

EKC Group are proud of all of our talented staff members, many congratulations to Ruth and Daniel on their recent recognition.
