Financial Support

We are committed to supporting students in order for them to overcome any financial barriers to learning.


Listed below are the types of support that may be available to help you with course-related costs such as kit, equipment, books and travel.

Students who are aged 16–19 at enrolment

16–​19 Guaranteed Bursary – for students who are in care or a care leaver, those who are claiming Income Support or Universal Credit in their own right or those who are claiming Employment Support Allowance together with Personal Independence Payment or Disability Living Allowance in their own right.  Successful applicants may be entitled to up to £1,200. 

Discretionary Bursary – for students where the household income is low. Allocated amounts for successful applicants will vary depending on travelling distance. 

Free College Meals – for students who live in a household where certain benefits are claimed, such as Income Support and JSA.  

Care 2 Learn – free childcare for students. You must be 20 years old or under when you start your course and your child must be in registered childcare for you to be eligible. 

16+ Travel Card –  If you are 16–18 and are eligible for the 16–18 Bursary, the College may support you financially to apply via the KCC website

If you are not eligible, you can purchase a KCC 16+ Travel Saver Card. You can apply via the KCC website.

Students who are 19+ at enrolment

Learner Support Fund – for students who are 19 or over at the start of their course and have a low household income. The College may be able to support you with course-related costs and childcare.

19+ Loan Bursary – If you have an Advanced Learner Loan to pay for your course, you may be entitled to help with course-related costs and childcare if you have a low household income.


All applications for financial support are treated as confidential. Any assistance granted is subject to the student maintaining good behaviour, punctuality and at least 90% attendance.

Application Process

  • Application forms are available to collect from the Funding Team.
  • Please return completed application forms to the Funding Team, along with all required documentation, as noted on the form. Unfortunately, we are unable to consider any application where documentation is missing.
  • Your application will then be processed and, if eligible, you will receive a notification detailing your award. We aim to process claims within 10 working days.  Any successful claims cannot be activated until enrolment. If you are unsuccessful in your claim, you will receive notification detailing the appeals procedure.
