Foundations for Future – Folkestone’s New Build given the Go Ahead

After working with local planners, permission to go ahead with the build of our new development has been granted.

The new building - that will house a new teaching block as well as a campus reception building - has been granted permission to begin with the major works. The build is anticipated to take several months, but is hoped that it will be functional by the 2022/23 academic year. The new layout for the Folkestone campus will enable the college to upgrade facilities for areas such as Business, Sport and Professional Services, but also enable the creation of greater opportunity through T-Level and Higher Education routes across Construction, Digital Production, Early Years, Professional Services and Catering.

During its construction - working closely with the contractors - local residents and school children may even be able to visit parts of the development to learn more about the the build process.The College's own Construction department is also very excited by this development, as it will give learners the opportunity to deepen their knowledge by getting a first-hand view of how large structures are built from the ground-up. As part of this, students will have the opportunity to tour the site as soon as it is safe to do so.

The works will include:

  • The development of the new build across the front of the site, and the creation of a quad with the lawn in the middle;
  • Creation of a new carpark at the rear;
  • Renovation and extension of the nursery;
  • Remodelling and landscaping of communal spaces.

Folkestone College Principal, Nick Holbrook-Sutcliffe said, "This represents is a huge investment for high level skills in Folkestone and Hythe, and demonstrates how vital Folkestone College is in supplying the workforce needed to realise the region’s ambitious plans."

A very exciting time for Folkestone, this investment represents the EKC Group’s confidence in the provision in Folkestone. Keep an eye on our social channels (linked below) for updates of the build as it happens, including on-site access and interviews with the contractors and visitor tours.
