You will learn culinary skills and techniques from chefs in our industry-standard preparation kitchens. Students will learn how to create and prepare menus using a range of produce and creative skills.

Daniel Eiste

We asked a student alum what advice he’d give to students wanting to work within the industry:

“I’d tell students to always embrace the challenge. In this industry, the most important thing is to have patience and passion. Kitchens can be fun, even in the most stressful of times, especially when the whole team rallies round and supports one another. It’s a hard job and a tough industry, but if you enjoy what you do then you will be fine.”

After School Cookery Club

Introducing children age 8 – 11 to the world of cookery as they explore new culinary skills, flavours and recipes.

Led by experienced tutors, budding young chefs can learn basic cooking techniques, experiment with flavours, and create delicious dishes.

This five week club starts Monday 3 June.

Gain Valuable Industry Experience

We work with a variety of local restaurants and businesses, many of which provide industry placements for our students. Employers also visit the College to provide workshops and masterclasses in our professional kitchens.

We work hard to ensure students are matched with valuable placements, many of which go on to offer our students paid work.

Take Part in Skills Competitions

Students have the opportunity to take part in local, regional and national skills competitions such as KFE heats, Worldskills and Young Chefs.

These are the perfect way for students to showcase their skills, hone their palates and explore their creativity.

Students hear from the award winning team at Rocksalt

Students met with Executive Head Chef for the Rocksalt Group, Marcin Szelag, who spoke about his journey into the industry and what it’s like to work for the Rocksalt group.

As part of the visit students toured the restaurant and kitchens, met the staff and had the opportunity to ask all of their culinary questions.
