An essential qualification if you want to go on to further study, and a basic requirement for many jobs, this course will enable you to develop your abilities in reading, understanding and analysing text as well as exploring creative writing.
You will complete 2 final exams, both unseen texts. There will also be a speaking and listening assessment, throughout the course of study.
GCSE English is designed to enable students of all abilities to develop the skills they need to read, understand and analyse a wide range of different texts covering the 19th, 20th and 21st century time periods as well as to write clearly, coherently and accurately using a range of vocabulary and sentence structures. There is also a compulsory speaking and listening component in which advice will be given on delivering presentations to an audience. You will receive a separate award, gaining a pass, merit or distinction.

Students need to be aged 18+. Prospective applicants will need a Level 2 Functional Skills certificate, a grade D in English Language, English Literature or English (combined), or will need to complete an aptitude test to be accepted on to the course of study.
There is no fee for GCSE English provided you do not already hold the qualification at grade C or above.
