Natsai's Industry Placement Experience

Our Health and Social Care students learn industry experience by undertaking a placement at a local care company. We caught up with Level 3 student, Natsai Muyeye, and found out she got on during her placement.

I am a Level 3 Health and Care Extended Diploma student at Canterbury College in my final year of study.

I do my placement work at LDC Care Company in Folkestone, who specialise in caring for individuals with learning disabilities, mental health and so much more.

When working at my placement, I have many responsibilities including administering medication, filling in medical count sheets, as well as assisting with personal care.

I really enjoy my placement because it gives me first-hand experience in the subjects I have learnt in my Health and Social care course at College.

Undertaking placement prepares me for what I will later have to do at an advanced level in Nursing once I finish College.

My experience working on placement has been somewhat challenging, especially when I first started as it felt a little daunting.

However, I really enjoy it now I have settled in and it has taught me the key elements needed to become a health practitioner and the traits I need to demonstrate, such as compassion and kindness.

Also, when I am caring for people on placement, I am able to transfer the skills I have learnt in my lessons which is so helpful.

Studying at Canterbury College has been great and has really benefitted me.

There is so much support provided by our tutors and learning resources.

I have been able to develop my skills and knowledge and gain experience in the industry. I know what to expect when working in a care setting in my future employment.

College has definitely been a stepping stone for me to progress into Higher Education.

I have applied to the University of Birmingham to study Adult Nursing in September and wish to work in this field after my studies.
