Whatever course you choose at Canterbury College, you’ll be expected to complete some form of industry placement. Each department has its own dedicated Industry Liaison Officer, who will be helping you to get the experience that you need to progress.

Denise started her career as a freelance artist, painting children’s wall murals. She went on to own and run an interior design company, Hamilton’s International Ltd.
Being a freelancer in the past means that Denise can give you valuable advice on how you can do this to the best of your ability.
Denise is setting up a ‘Work Ready’ club for her students and makes use of tendering wall, where all the available freelance opportunities are displayed. Art & Design students can apply for these opportunities., just like you would in the real world!

Jamie is no stranger to the mechanical industry. Having helped run the family mechanics business for five years, she has strong links to the industry from her experience.
Engineering students can benefit from strong links with Megger, who make electrical test equipment in Dover, who take on many engineering students for work placements.
Sarah’s experience in marketing and advertising has led her to become the new Industry Liaison Officer for the Media & Communications department.
Being an industry expert, Sarah has contacts in the media and entertainment industry and will help you explore opportunities and offer support and advice.
Although Sarah is new to the role, she is already working with exciting companies to secure placements for students.
“Take every opportunity you can to gain relevant experience. The more you gain, the better your CV will look when applying for a job.”
Daniel has a wealth of knowledge from his experience in events management, corporate dining and wedding planning.
Working closely with the Marlowe Theatre, Daniel has successfully secured students placements that have led to full-time employment with the theatre.
“Apply early – placements are taken quickly. Always pick one in a field that interests you.”
Jaime graduated with a BA in Psychology and began her career at Canterbury College arranging and monitoring work experience as an administrative assistant. She then joined the Animal Care department as a Work Placement officer and has been working in this role ever since.
Jaime has successfully helped students gain full-time employment. After setting up students with work experience at a dog boarding company, two exceptional students were offered further training in canine first aid and were given the opportunity to join the business as self-employed dog walkers

Jo has worked in housing for 10 years and has lots of family working in the trade.
Experience in the industry means that Jo can give you lots of help and advice around what you can expect from your chosen profession. Jo also works closely with Mears, who offer repair work for the local social housing providers.
“You could end up getting paid employment from your placements, so just give it your all and really showcase what you can do.”
