Meet the Engineering Department

Our staff from the Engineering Department use their industry knowledge and experience to empower our students. We sat down with them to get to know them a little more.

Carl Hudson

Carl is Head of the Engineering, Motor Vehicle and Welding and oversees the day to day running of the department. He has worked at Canterbury College for 16 years.

Carl first worked here as a Skills Technician, then progressed into Lecturer role, then Programme Director and is now a Head of Department. He has a background in heavy goods and HGV vehicles and used to work as a Bus Mechanic!

Before that, Carl completed an apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering.

Carl is an amateur photographer and metal detectorist. He enjoys beach combing local beaches and has been featured in various local newspapers for the interesting objects he has found.

He once found a historic artefact that is currently being investigated by the British Museum! You can follow his adventures on Instagram here.
