Kim Li’s Motor Vehicle Journey

Kim Li is a Motor Vehicle student at Canterbury College, who has been outstanding in his studies, which has led him to a top Apprenticeship with Bosch Car Service and a job at East Kent Automotive.

Kim Li is a Motor Vehicle student at Canterbury College who has been outstanding in his studies, which has led him to a top Apprenticeship with Bosch Car Service and a job at East Kent Automotive. His tutor Dennis Webster told us that Kim was "let down last year with work experience due to no fault of his own, so I was desperate to help him get a placement this year as he has been an exceptional student." By putting the student at the heart of what we do, the tutor was able to find a placement for Kim at Hollis Motors in Dover, where his hard work led him to an Apprenticeship programme at Bosch Car Service. This Apprenticeship provided Kim with a work-based programme to achieve a Level 3 qualification and become a light vehicle technician.

Following on from his excellent work at Bosch Car Service, Kim is now working at East Kent Automotive, as well as studying at Canterbury College. Kirit Parmar, Director of East Kent Automotive, tells us they would like to "support Kim to become a Master Technician, which can take a further three to five years after his Apprenticeship. We (East Kent Automotive) are here to support Kim’s journey, provide him with the working environment and support to enable him to get to where he will be comfortable. More importantly, we will provide him a place to work and earnings to support himself and, in the future, his family."

As an employee of East Kent Automotive, Kim will learn how to interact with colleagues, expand his skills and work on new and different types of vehicles. Kirit says that "Safety is paramount, and Kim will learn how to ensure all vehicles leave EKA in a safe condition. Further experience and skills will be gained by shadowing our qualified technicians and Aftersales Manager."

Kirit would also like to stress that East Kent Automotive is looking to employ both male and female Apprentices and encourages women to trial. With a more gender-inclusive approach to employment, Kirit explains that "the industry is changing, and with the incoming of hybrid and electric cars, the profile and qualifications of individuals are more open."

A huge congratulations to Kim Li for all his hard work over the past few years. Kim is an example of a student who has applied perseverance in his studies and has achieved excellence.
