Get Creative with Part Time Courses

This week, we’re focussing on how college courses can help you express your creative side. Specifically, our short and part-time adults’ courses are a great way to get creative at a time that fits around your busy schedule. We’ve picked out some of our favourites that are still to come this academic year.

Ceramics

Whether you’re looking to expand on skills, try out something different, or maybe you’ve just seen Ghost too many times… this course is definitely one to whet your creative appetite. Delivered by the professional and experienced ceramicist Clive Soord, you will be encouraged to experience many different ways of working with clay to develop your own ideas and be taught new ones. No previous experience is required.

Fish Cookery

Getting creative doesn’t just mean putting paint brush to canvas – the kitchen is also filled with opportunity, and, although our cooking classes are taught in a professional kitchen, the skills learned are specifically suited to transfer to the domestic kitchen.

This course is taught by a professional Chef who has worked in a number of prestigious kitchens across the UK and Europe, during which you will be able to explore the art of preparing and cooking a range of fish dishes such as:

  • Mediterranean Fish Stew;
  • Stuffed Plaice with Salmon poached in a Prawn sauce garnished with crispy seaweed;
  • Pan-fried Seabass with fresh tagliatelle samphire with Beurre blanc.

Adobe InDesign & Photoshop

Combining technical know-how and artistic ability is a great skill to have in the modern workplace and this six-week course is designed to help you get to grips with industry-specification software tools from the Adobe Suite.

During the first hour of this session you will learn how to create stunning photographic images with Adobe Photoshop. The following hour focuses on designing leaflets, brochures and digital designs using Adobe InDesign. With a tutor working in the design industry, they will be able to teach you the latest and best practice techniques used by graphic designers worldwide.

Stone Carving

Back to more hands-on approaches, our Stone Carving courses are so popular that they run multiple times per year! Open to beginners, experienced stone carvers or those in-between, this evening class will enable those with an established stone carving practice to use the studios and discuss techniques and approaches to stone carving and sculpture.

The stone used will be limestone taken from Canterbury Cathedral during its ongoing renovation/ restoration work. All materials and tools are provided as well as industry standard facilities and a professional and experienced tutor.

Lash Lift & Tint

Hair, make-up and beauty are inherently creative and combine technical knowledge, creative intuition and attention to detail. Fast becoming a popular treatment within the beauty industry this course will teach you how to master the techniques of lash lift and tint. This is a safe and effective treatment to enhance your client’s eyes by adding definition to their lashes whilst offering them an alternative to using mechanical eyelash curlers and mascara.

This course covers the techniques for carrying out a lash lift and tint safely and effectively. You will first learn how to lift the lashes from the roots using unique shields and to how to then tint them to add definition.
