At school, you are likely to be studying A-Levels, and usually at least three of them. These will be in varying subjects.
At College you will specialise in a course that you have chosen and study a BTEC, a Diploma, T Levels or a vocational course. These qualifications are equally respected by universities and are beneficial if you have decided what area you would like to progress in.
College offers a wide range of specialist courses that you can choose from. To find a course that’s right for you, visit one of our upcoming Open Days.
You will find that College has a more relaxed environment than school, as you’ll be on a first-name basis with your tutors. As everybody at College is over 16, you will be able to study in a mature atmosphere and will take on responsibility for your own learning.
Lessons at College are scheduled for three days a week, which means that you can direct your own studies on the remaining days of the week. This is not an opportunity you will usually be given at school as you will be studying more subjects and not have as much free study. This prepares you for university where you will have to manage your own time effectively.
Although you have probably needed to partake in Work Experience at school, College requires all its students to get involved in Industry Placements.
You will work with your tutors and Industry Liaison Officers to find a placement that is relevant to your chosen career and you will need to complete a certain number of hours during your course. Industry Placements will give you regular exposure to the world of work and equip you with hands-on experience.
Every department at College has links with businesses, so you can work directly with companies to get real-life exposure to what would be involved in your future career.
All our staff at Canterbury College are experts in their field. All tutors have spent time in their respective industries, and many still do. You will be learning directly from them and they will be able to advise you about your progression after College, giving you advice on how to get into the industry you want to.
Many of our courses will give you the opportunity to work on projects with the local community. For example, Graphic Design students recently worked closely with Keel Toys to design and manufacture their very own toy designs, giving them a great boost on their CV's.
