CSVA Wallpaper Design Wins Over Top Home Developer

Art & Design student Tommy Regan has had his wallpaper design chosen to be used in a new home development in Kent.

In December, agency Philosophy Design reached out to our students and invited them to collaborate on their design project for Blossom Grove, a development of new homes in Kent.

Students were briefed to create a design that could be used as a wallpaper in the marketing suite of the development and displayed across a stretch of the hoarding behind the show homes.

The housing development, located in Teynham, is in an area of Kent famed for its fruit orchards that produce cherries, apples and pears, so students were asked to create a design that reflects this.

Out of the 16 students that entered various designs, Philosophy shortlisted six students’ designs to be considered by Hyde New Homes. Finally, Tommy Regan’s entry was chosen as the winner.

Tommy created two different designs using Japanese-style sticks and ink for the cherry blossoms, which were then finished using Photoshop to create a pattern.

Not only will he have his design enjoyed by the general public, but he has also been offered a prestigious industry placement this summer at Philosophy Design.

Tommy said: “I was very surprised to have my design chosen but it will be a great opportunity to move forward in my career. I’d like to go to university after College, and then I hope to work in London. The industry experience I will gain with Philosophy this summer will give me an insight into my future career.”

This opportunity was earned through CSVA’s ‘Work Ready’ club, a scheme where students work with their Industry Liaison Officer to gain work experience on real-life projects.

Lecturer at CSVA, Rob Black, said: “It was a great project to work on as the students were required to interpret the clients brief working efficiently to a tight deadline. The work submitted was excellent and the design agency were very impressed by the level of the student's designs.”
