The third annual Canterbury Medieval Pageant took place on Saturday 7th July and featured giants created by CSVA, which were paraded through the city.
The annual event, organised by Canterbury BID, commemorated Henry II’s pilgrimage to Canterbury with a colourful parade with historical characters, giants and music.
During the CSVA summer school, staff worked with the students of Spires Academy and local primary school pupils to create carnival apparel for the parade, as well as giant structures of Henry II and Queen Eleanor.
Ben Kidger said: “This was also a great opportunity for students to learn important skills including group work, communication, and timekeeping techniques.”
“The giant structures were highly ambitious and the students did extremely well to create something that looked spectacular in the parade.”
Many thanks to Peter Cook from Big Bash Music Company for engaging students in this project, as well as the many other artists that came in to help our students and staff to establish CSVA at the very heart of East Kent’s creative industries.
