College Staff Fundraise for Charities

Our staff are passionate about social action and often support a wide range of causes. Most recently, teams from across our Canterbury College campus have been participating in social action, fundraising for charities Pancreatic Cancer UK and Pilgrims Hospices.

Some of our wonderful staff at College have been raising money in aid of Pancreatic Cancer UK. Sue Walton and Karen Freeman organised a Summer Fair stall to raise money after the sad loss of our beloved colleague Julia McKenzie.

Sue shared how "it began as an idea to bring a bit of cheer to the place during what has been a very sad and difficult time due to the pandemic and the loss of our dear friend and colleague, Julia McKenzie earlier this year. Using our skills and calling upon other departments to help us, we put together this event little realising how successful and well received it would be."

The team are so pleased with the amazing feedback they have received that they are now hoping to host more events later in the year.

There was a variety of fantastic items on offer including homemade jams, plants, sweet treats, as well as handmade goods such as lavender gifts, bunting and novelty knits.

They have raised over £1000 for the charity, an amazing achievement for the team. We would like to thank Sue Walton and Karen Freeman and congratulate them for the hard work and talent they have put into making these wonderful hand-made gifts and the Reception Team for supporting and setting up the Summer Fair event.

We would also like to thank the Catering students who got involved by baking cakes to sell.

Our colleagues in the Exams Team have also been supporting Pilgrims Hospices, a charity close to their hearts in terms of family and friends who were at the College. The team took on an impressive task, walking 35km from Canterbury Pilgrims Hospice to Dover Castle on Saturday 19 June.

In addition, three members of the Public Services team ran the distance between the five Colleges to also support the charity. This is an amazing effort and reflects their passion for the causes involved. On behalf of everyone at College, we would like to congratulate them for their hard work, and they should all be very proud of their achievements.

Thank you to everyone who has shown their support and donated to these wonderful causes, your generosity is greatly appreciated by the teams involved.
