From Canterbury to Cambridge - University Success for Access Students

We are delighted to announce that Sophie Peters and Megan Coe, both Access to Higher Education students, have been accepted to study at the University of Cambridge, and will be progressing this September.

The University of Cambridge is one of the top universities in the country and we are incredibly proud of these students who will benefit from the outstanding social and educational experiences they offer.

During their time at College, Megan and Sophie were heavily involved within the campus community alongside their Access course.

Sophie, who will be studying a Classics BA (Hons) at the University of Cambridge, was a driving force as the Students’ Union Green Officer, heading up the environmental society, alongside taking up the role of a Student Ambassador throughout the year.

She said: “College is perfectly designed to prepare you for university. The experience that I have had has given me more than A-Levels ever would – the transition to Higher Education feels seamless.

My course allowed me to experience a wide range of subjects that I hadn’t yet touched on, so before I narrowed my studies, I was able to explore a broad range of knowledge.”

“The opportunities that College has given me outside of my course are the things that have made my university application stand out. The university had the chance to see that I am genuinely passionate about more than just what I do in the classroom.”

Megan Coe, who will be studying Human, Social, and Political Sciences BA (Hons) in September, has spent this year in the SU office as their Women’s Officer. She has been striving for change and campaigning relentlessly for gender equality, ensuring that all College students have access to the resources and support that they need.

She said: “Studying at Canterbury College this past year has made a huge positive difference to my life. The support and opportunities that have been given to me by College have enabled me to successfully apply for Cambridge University.

During my time at College, my confidence has grown. I’ve learned so much and I am so grateful that our community has given me the chance to meet so many different people – all people that have encouraged, supported, and uplifted me.”

Megan and Sophie are a fantastic example of how the unique learning experiences and opportunities available at the College prepare students for progression to university. We would like to congratulate them on their success and look forward to following their journey.

Our Access to Higher Education courses are perfect for students who are looking to progress to Higher Education but may not have the qualifications needed to apply.
