Award in Education & Training (AET) Level 3

The Pearson Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) is an introductory teaching qualification. Achieving this Award will provide sufficient evidence that you have acquired the necessary skills and knowledge to prepare, plan, deliver and evaluate basic teaching and learning sessions, in a variety of teaching or training contexts.

This introductory, knowledge-based teaching qualification has no minimum teaching practice requirement, therefore it may be undertaken by individuals who are not currently in a teaching role.

It can meet the needs of a range of trainee teachers, including:

  • Those not currently teaching or training
  • Those who have just begun or are about to begin teaching or training
  • Individuals currently working in associated education or training roles, such as assessors, teaching assistants or learning support practitioners, who wish to achieve a qualification which provides an introduction to potential future careers in teaching

The AET gives you the opportunity to:

  • develop knowledge related to teaching and learning
  • develop skills and confidence in teaching and learning
  • achieve a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification

What will I learn?

By completing the three-unit programme you will learn how to plan, deliver and assess courses and sessions for working with students, through studying the following:

  • Understanding Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Education and Training
  • Understanding and Using Inclusive Approaches in Education and Training
  • Understanding Assessment in Education and Training

How will I be assessed?

The AET programme is assessed through written assignments and reports, individual and group case studies, learning journal entries, self-evaluations, group research tasks and presentations and an individual ‘micro teach’ of your practice.

What may it lead to?

Learners who achieve the Pearson BTEC Level 3 Award in Education & Training (AET) can progress to the Pearson BTEC Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training (DET) providing they meet the minimum requirement of 100 teaching hours over two years. This can then enable progression onto potential careers as Lecturers or Trainers in both the Further Education and Training sectors.
