This course is ideal for people with aspirations to progress into the sports industry or into higher education. The course is a combination of academic and practical sessions that will give you an insight into what's required to work in the sports industry. Sport is more than a job, it requires a different level of commitment, so from day one, these themes will be used to educate and prepare you for employment. You will be expected to demonstrate professionalism during your time at the College. You will also be expected to wear your sports department uniform to all sessions, in line with many sports careers, and conduct yourself in a manner that represents the industry. This will include respect, teamwork and discipline.

What will I learn?

During your programme you will have the opportunity to learn about a selection of integral subjects including anatomy and physiology, sports coaching, research methods, research project, fitness testing and training, sports psychology, sports performance, sports nutrition, business in sport, sports development and other areas related to the sports industry. You will also gain skills in teamwork, communication, leadership, fitness, resilience, honesty, enthusiasm, commitment, discipline and respect, as well as improving confidence.

How will I be assessed?

Through a combination of practical work, presentations, practical observations, a portfolio of assignments and case studies. This qualification also contains external exams set and marked by the awarding body.

What may it lead to?

This course will support you in progressing into employment in the sports industry or on to higher education. This can include sports coaching, sport and exercise sciences, sports therapy, physiotherapy, sports development, working with children, fitness and exercise instruction, and progression on to Apprenticeships.

Entry requirements

4 Cs or 4s including English and Maths and a relevant Full Level 2.

Work experience

As part of the Study Programme, all students will have to complete a minimum (normally 30) number of work experience hours – you will be supported in finding a relevant placement. All students will also have the opportunity to listen to external speakers and visit external facilities.

Additional information & other costs

As this course requires something different from you, we run a one-day assessment centre that all applicants must attend. The assessment centre will aim to test your suitability for the sports courses and give you an insight into the life of a sports student. We will be looking at your academic capabilities, teamwork, motivation and leadership skills and general qualities against those of the sports industry. After successfully passing the assessment centre and gaining the necessary qualifications, you will be invited to enrol.
