This course has been designed to provide vocationally-relevant subjects in commercial music, aimed at beginners through to semi-professionals over two years of study.
Employment opportunities in the music industry are centred on self-employment rather than contracted employment with large companies in most cases. This qualification aims to provide you with the skills you need to pursue a career in one of the many areas of the music industry and reinforce skills to become self-employed and motivated in the music industry.
You will develop a range of academic skills through various assessment methods in the following units from year 1 of the course:
In the second year of the course, you will select a career pathway to follow, with the options of Session Musician, Composer or Producer.
This will allow you to specialise in your chosen subject area, and to develop the skill and knowledge required to follow the career option you are most passionate about.
Through a combination of written assignments, tests, practical work, group projects and external examinations.
You will be expected to complete work experience, take part in community days, and complete self-study.
Successful completion of Year 1 will allow continuation into Year 2 Extended Diploma pathway. Successful completion of this qualification will enable you to progress to the University.
Guest speakers from the industry are regularly invited to talk about their role in the sector.
