This creative course covers the application of specialised make-up and artificial hair for theatrical and media purposes. Students will learn advanced make-up techniques for film and television work, stage, catwalk and other media such as photographic shoots.
You will learn basic airbrush skills, media make-up, fashion make-up, photographic make-up, face and body art, how to apply basic prosthetics, creative hair styling, facial hair and wig application, client care and health and safety. Practical skills are developed on fellow students prior to work on clients. The course has a strong vocational emphasis, allowing you to develop practical skills recognised by employers. You'll be encouraged to develop your own abilities, and also to communicate and interact with external clients.
This qualification will require you to develop an effective working methodology, which will enable you to react positively and creatively across a diverse range of assignments and creative activities.
You will be continually assessed throughout the course and will complete practical assessments on paying clients as well as written assignments and online tests. You will create a portfolio of evidence to display your achievement.
This course can lead to employment in salons as a makeover demonstrator, in TV or film as a trainee make-up artist, consultancy work for a make-up retailer, or self-employment as a make-up artist.
4 Cs or 4s including English and Maths or a relevant Full Level 2.
You will need to purchase a theatrical hair and make-up kit, a uniform and appropriate footwear. Full details will be given at the interview stage. Fee-paying models may be required for some assessments. Course fees will be discussed at interview.
