This evening course for students aged 19+ and will give you more future opportunities in work and education. You'll learn in a caring environment with an experienced tutor, and will also have access to computing software that enables you to get a better understanding of the topics covered in class. This course is held on Thursdays between 17:45 and 19:45.
You will learn how to analyse situations mathematically and problem solve using number, ratio, algebra, geometry and statistics.
There will be three paper-based exams at the end of the course. In class (during the course), you'll be assessed in a variety of different ways.
There will be 2 hours of classroom delivery each week, term time only.
You will need to complete at least 3 hours of independent study each week on top of your guided learning hours.
This qualification will provide you with many career and educational opportunities in your chosen field.
You must be 19+ when you start the course and ideally have GCSE Maths at grade 3 from the last three years.
At the interview stage, you will have your numeracy levels assessed. You must demonstrate that you are working at GCSE grade D/3 standard. If this is not the case, a more appropriate level of Functional Skills may be offered to build up your skills before attempting the GCSE course at a later date.
Prior to the start of the course, you will be asked to complete a set amount of maths tasks to make a solid start on the course when teaching commences.
The Study Programme will follow the Edexcel foundation syllabus and will cover the five main areas of maths at GCSE: ratio, number, algebra, statistics and geometry.
This course will run every Thursday (term time only) for 2 hours starting at 17:45. There will be additional, optional revision sessions available prior to the start of class on Thursday and on Wednesday afternoon from 13:30.
Students who already hold a grade 4/C or higher are ineligible for this course.
*There is no fee for GCSE Maths provided you do not already hold the qualification at grade 4 or above. You will be expected to provide your own mathematical equipment so that you may practice in class and at home.
