Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Horticulture

This course will provide you with the understanding, knowledge and practical experience needed to gain employment in the horticulture sector.

What will I learn?

This course covers a range of topics such as

  • Professional Working Responsibilities
  • Work Experience in the Land-Based Industry
  • Plant and Soil Science
  • Practical Estate Skills 
  • Routine Plant Management
  • Tree and Shrub Pruning Techniques
  • Identification, Care and Planting of Trees and Shrubs

This course is fantastic for those learners who enjoy a combination of classroom and outdoor learning; due to the nature of the course, we regularly have outdoor classrooms and visit many different locations across Kent. 

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is a combination of course work and external examinations. There are 3 exam units in the qualification over the 2-year course. For internal assessments, you will do reports, essays, projects, scientific investigations, and practical observation assessments. 

What may it lead to?

This course will provide you with the technical skills and knowledge to enter the Land-Based sector upon completion or will enable you to progress on to higher education courses such as a Higher National Diploma or bachelor's degrees. 

Industry Placements

You will be expected to undertake 300hours of work experience over the 2-year programme.
