Kent Cricket Coaching Academy

Launching in September 2023, we are delighted to be working in partnership with Kent Cricket to provide a fantastic and unique opportunity for young people to join the Kent Cricket Coaching Academy, combining an outstanding education experience with a professional sports coaching programme.

The Kent Cricket Coaching Academy experience enables you to apply your learning in a first-class professional sporting environment whilst refining your talents in sport, experiencing professional sports expertise providing you with a unique advantage in your next steps.

You will learn at The Spitfire Ground, St.Lawrence, in the heart of Canterbury, with access to professional sporting, fitness, training facilities and equipment, alongside the opportunity to train in the grounds of one of the county’s most prestigious sporting venues.

As part of the academy, you will develop a wide range of professional skills to help you progress, including:

  • Player development - Enhance your cricket skills alongside your general fitness and health to ensure you are a good sportsperson.
  • Coaching - Learn how to take your leadership and coaching skills into the communities that we serve alongside professional Kent Cricket Community Coaches.
  • Strength & Conditioning - All professional athletes undertake strength and conditioning training, and you will learn about injury prevention, improved performance and enhanced general health in the sporting sector.
  • Performance - Take your sporting ability to the next level, whether you want to enhance your cricket skills, or generally improve your fitness and health to develop the way you participate in any sport.
  • Player insight and psychology - Find out about the different strategies and techniques that will help you become a good player both individually and as part of a team.
  • Gain industry experience - From gaining work experience at matchdays, to finding out about the inner workings of a successful cricket club, you will have plenty of opportunities to enhance your knowledge of the world of professional sport.

There are two different routes you can take when you study within the Kent Cricket Coaching Academy.

Vocational Route

The Academy is open to students studying their Sport National Extended Diploma at Canterbury College.

This route is ideal for students with aspirations to progress into the sports industry or into higher education.

The course is a combination of academic and practical sessions that will give you an insight into what’s required to work in the sports coaching industry.

A Levels Route

Our Kent Cricket Academy opportunity is open to students of EKC Sixth Form College to take part in alongside their A Level programmes of study.

Students of Kent Cricket Academy do not necessarily need to be studying the Sport & Physical Education A Level to take advantage of this opportunity, but it would certainly complement any sporting study.

We require students to have an average point on entry score of 5.0 from their best 6 subjects, ideally including English and Mathematics.

This programme of study is designed to accelerate progression toward advanced employment, higher study or apprenticeship opportunities if you are clear about your next steps and you have the explicit entry criteria to ensure your success.
