NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Awareness of Mental Health Problems

This qualification is designed for any learner that wants to raise their awareness of mental health and the problems that can cause mental health problems. These may be learners who wish to access this training with a view to progress to further qualifications or employment within health and social care, to complement other qualifications within apprenticeship frameworks within health or health and social care, or to develop within their current job role.

What will I learn?

This qualification covers a range of mental health topics including stress, anxiety, phobias, depression, post-natal depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, dementia, eating disorders, ADHD, OCD and PTSD. 

Learners will develop an understanding of the topics in relation to the symptoms and experience for the individual, support needs, how the disorder can be managed and treated and the roles and needs of the family and friends of the individual.

How will I be assessed?

Learners will be assessed through coursework.

What may it lead to?

This qualification can support progression into employment in health and social care or progression related to roles such as:

  • Care Assistants
  • Adult Social Care Relief Team Worker
  • Night Care Assistant
  • Support Worker
  • Healthcare Assistant
  • Counsellor
  • Substance Misuse Worker
  • Clinical Healthcare Support Worker
  • Key Worker in residential/domiciliary/day care setting
  • Mental Health Support/Outreach Worker

Workers within a range of public service roles will interact with those with mental health issues and support needs in their day to day work. This could be those working in areas such as customer service, housing voluntary sector, sport and recreation, hospitality, travel and tourism etc. This qualification would specifically support those workers to understand mental health issues.

Entry Requirements

There are no specific prior qualifications needed for this course, although learners may find it useful to have previously achieved a Level 1 qualification in a health, social care or mental health related area.

19-23 with a Full Level 2 or above 

On benefits as per agreement self declaration – fees waived if criteria is met

On low wage as per agreement – 3 pay slips to be seen and fees waived if criteria is met.

Employed or not on benefits – fees payable £405

19-23 – No full level 2 qualification or above

Full Cost Recovery – Fees £811

Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter if the student is on low wage or benefits if they do not have a full L2 or above they have to pay full cost
