Updates: Colleges & Business Units | Commercial Outlets and Nurseries
Advice for: Students, Parents and Carers | College Applicants | Apprentices
This two-year course will give you in-depth knowledge of the health and social care sector. You will need to do work experience as part of the qualification.
You will study mandatory units that develop your knowledge, understanding and skills needed for work in the field of health and social care. There are also optional units that allow you to choose a particular aspect of health and social care to study, including a route that focusses specifically on health studies.
This can lead to degree-level courses in nursing, midwifery, social work, youth work and teaching. It can also lead to employment in health and social care settings such as hospitals, surgeries, nursing and care homes.
Students can progress into careers in health and social care. For some health professions, you may also require a C or 4 in GCSE Science.
Learners are required to undertake a minimum of 330 hours' work experience over two years as part of the course.
Please note: Any students under the age of 18 are entitled to get two doses of the Covid vaccination if they undertake work experience or work in the sector. It is not mandatory for students under the age of 18 to be vaccinated but employers will expect it. Students who do not have a medical exemption and who are not willing to be vaccinated will not be able to complete their course or work in the sector.
