Advice for: Students, Parents and Carers | College Applicants | Apprentices
This highly practical course will give you the skills and knowledge needed for working within the hairdressing industry. You will train in the College's hairdressing salon, which takes on real clients.
You will learn about health and safety in the workplace, creative cutting and colour correction, how to advise and consult with clients, creative hairstyling and long hair work, creative hairdressing skills and how to organise promotional activities. You will have the opportunity to compete in College competitions, with winners going on to national and international WorldSkills competitions. Practical skills are developed on fellow students prior to working on clients. The course has a strong vocational emphasis, allowing you to develop practical skills recognised by employers. You'll be encouraged to develop your own abilities, and also to communicate and interact with external clients.
This qualification will require you to develop an effective working methodology, which will enable you to react positively and creatively across a diverse range of assignments and creative activities.
You will be continually assessed throughout the course and will complete practical assessments on paying clients, as well as written assignments and online tests. You will create a portfolio of evidence to display your achievement.
