The Foundation Learning department works with students who are not ready for vocational study for reasons such as low grades, being unsure of what area to study or needing confidence to enable progression. Class sizes are small, and tutors work with students to develop their skills and confidence to progress.
The course is a 37-week Gateway to Learning Course, incorporating personal development and employability skills at Level 1 or Entry Level 3 depending on which level is best for you. You will study a number of units, which will lead to the Gateway qualification at Award or Certificate level. Your curriculum also includes other subjects such as IT, music technology and sport. Maths and English are studied alongside the Gateway programme.
The Gateway qualification is unit-based, leading to the qualification at Award or Certificate at Level 1. Evidence required is portfolio-based and externally verified by the awarding body. Maths and English will be exam-based.
Students are able to experience College life whilst building confidence and gaining the skills and qualifications required for their progression, which will be to a vocational course at Level 1 or Level 2. This enables them to gain a better understanding of the expectations and options open to them.
There are no formal qualifications required, but there will be an interview process to ensure suitability.
You can register to be added to the waiting list and will be notified if spaces become available.
