An essential qualification if you want to go on to further study, and a basic requirement for many jobs, this course will enable you to develop your abilities in reading, understanding and analysing text as well as exploring creative writing.
Duration: September - July 2023
Classes run throughout the week and you will have a choice on whether to join us on a Tuesday morning or evening, or a Wednesday evening.
You will complete two final exams, both unseen texts. There will also be a speaking and listening assessment, throughout the course of study.
GCSE English is designed to enable students of all abilities to develop the skills they need to read, understand and analyse a wide range of different texts covering the 19th, 20th and 21st century time periods as well as to write clearly, coherently and accurately using a range of vocabulary and sentence structures. There is also a compulsory speaking and listening component in which advice will be given on delivering presentations to an audience. You will receive a separate award, gaining a pass, merit or distinction.
The course is broken down into two units, both assessed using a final, unseen examination:
Non-examination Assessment: Spoken Language (0% weighting of GCSE):
You must be 19+ when you start the course and entry will be subject to a pre-course assessment to indicate if you are working at Level 2 or GCSE grade 3/D standard.
*There is no fee for GCSE English provided you do not already hold the qualification at grade C or above.
